Fitness Friday: Are your hamstrings working properly?

By   0 Comments

Happy Halloween! Today we get our Fitness Friday tip from a piece of salt water taffy… šŸ™‚

If you’ve been following our Fitness Friday series for a while, you’ve probably gleaned that our favorite fitness guru, Laura, does things a little differently. She’s all about keeping muscles awake, in balance, and functioning optimally. When these three things are happening, there’s no limit to what you can do in whatever your favorite activity is.

This week she looks at the hamstring. Did you know that there are actually three parts to the hamstring? Before working with Laura, I had no idea. And I also had no idea that only one of my three hamstrings was actually working. No wonder it complained so loudly! It was doing the work of three all on its lonesome.

I’m not the only one with this issue. As Laura explains, it’s almost everyone she’s worked with who has this kind of issue. In this week’s installment of Fitness Friday, Laura demonstrates a really easy technique for determining if all three parts of your hamstrings are working, and then how to correct for those that are missing.

Laura Coleman - Laura ColemanĀ rocked my world a few years back when she helped me get to the root of all the knee and lower-back issues I’d had since my teens. In just a couple of sessions, Laura put me on a simple program of rehab exercises (unlike any I’d ever seen before) that brought my body back into alignment and actually fixed the problem that no physiotherapist, massage therapist, or chiropractor had ever been able to solve. I was hooked! We’ve been terrific friends and shared many clients since, and I’m delighted that she has offered to share her wisdom with all of you via this FitnessĀ FridayĀ video series. Laura lives in Portland, OR with her two gorgeous daughters. She works her magic at Club Sport and with clients all over the continent via the magic of technology (aka Skype). Check out her blog and websiteĀ here.
